The yurtfarm in Goulburn is situated in an 1174 acre property with beautiful rolling hills and bush.  It all started 20 years ago when Mike Shepherd started summer camps for kids from the city to teach them practical living skills.  The aim is to give children self confidence and a sense of achievement whilst having fun.

There is over a 100 activities you can so on the farm, such as cow milking, yabbie fishing, ghost walk, horse riding (lead rein only), making damper, build toy boats, mud brick making etc.  The children stay in roundhouses called yurt, a bit like a big cubby house.  These yurts are based on a Mongolian tent design.

Today Mike is still a real pied piper and children still come to the farm for an experience they will never forget.  But the yurtfarm has something for everyone, every year hundreds of international travellers come and experience the "Australian way of life" and Australians come to get away from the rat race.

The farm house:  The farmhouse dates back to 1870 and accommodates the international travellers that help out on this farm.  The farmyard is full on animals like chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, goats, cows, horses, sheep, ferrets and pigs.  There is also a big organic fruit and vegie garden.  In the evening you can join us for a big home cooked meal and singsong around the open fireplace.

The Yurtvillage:  The Yurtvillage surrounds a farm dam and contains 15 yurts including a kitchen-yurt, bathroom-yurt, craft-yurt, workshop-yurt and 2 toilet-yurts. The other yurts are used for accommodation.  The theme of the Yurtvillage is "Back to Basics" so NO electricity.  The yurts have a stove, army mattresses and a little solar light.

Bush Yurts:  There are 4 bush yurts hidden away amongst the rolling hills.  They are ideal stopovers for bushwalks or make adventurous accommodation for those that are after a real bush experience.  They all have a big fireplace and are the perfect spot to get away from everything except the kangaroos.
